Washington, DC – The Stimson Center will open Stimson Europe, a permanent presence in Brussels, Belgium. The Stimson Europe office is the first overseas location in the organization’s 30-year history. Initially it will be home to Stimson’s new Middle East and North Africa program, and will provide a European base of operations for other Stimson programs and accommodate future growth.

Kawa Hassan will serve as Executive Director of Stimson Europe in addition to his role as Director of the Middle East and North Africa program. Subject to public health considerations, the office will open this summer.

“Over the last five years, Stimson’s staff has tripled in size and we have added more than 10 new programs. With most of our new MENA team already in the area and given the depth of our relationships and number of supporters in Europe, this was the right time to expand. A European presence will open new doors for our work and be a resource for the entire organization,” said Brian Finlay, President and CEO of the Stimson Center.

The Stimson Center promotes international security, shared prosperity, and justice through applied research and independent analysis, deep engagement, and policy innovation.

For three decades, Stimson has been a leading voice on urgent global issues. Founded in the twilight years of the Cold War, the Stimson Center pioneered practical new steps toward stability and security in an uncertain world. Today, as changes in power and technology usher in a challenging new era, Stimson remains at the forefront: Engaging new voices, generating innovative ideas and analysis, and building solutions to promote international security, prosperity, and justice.
