Stimson Center Welcomes Dr. Asfandyar Mir as Senior Fellow in South Asia Program

The Stimson Center’s South Asia program is pleased to welcome Dr. Asfandyar Mir as a Senior Fellow. A recognized expert on South Asian strategic affairs, U.S. counterterrorism strategy, and geopolitical dynamics, Dr. Mir brings valuable expertise to a program known for its innovative approaches to the region’s complex strategic challenges.

Before joining Stimson, Dr. Mir was a senior expert at the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP), where he led work on South Asia security and U.S. counterterrorism policy. He is also an affiliate of Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Cooperation. At Stanford, he previously served as a postdoctoral teaching fellow (2019-2021), postdoctoral fellow (2018-2019), and predoctoral fellow (2017-2018). Dr. Mir holds a PhD in political science from the University of Chicago. Read Mir’s full bio.
