Stimson Center Announces New Board Members

In

The Stimson Center welcomed five new members to its Board of Directors this month: Sir Michael Arthur, Mary McInnis Boies, Alice Maroni, Mark Nichols, and Harry K. Thomas, Jr.

Brian Finlay, President and CEO of the Stimson Center, said: “We are delighted to welcome such a distinguished and diverse new class to our Board of Directors. Together they represent decades of leadership in public service, diplomacy, business, and philanthropy. We are grateful for their commitment to Stimson and our mission to enhance security and prosperity around the globe.”

Two members, Gary Gregg and Kris Balderson, completed their terms on the Board at the end of 2021.

“We are equally grateful to Gary and Kris for their years of support and service,” said Brian Finlay. “Both have made remarkable contributions to the work of the Stimson Center and we are proud to continue to count them as part of the team.”

Sir Michael Arthur is currently President of Boeing International, heading up Boeing activities outside the United States. For 5 years previously he held executive positions first as President of Boeing UK, then (additionally) of Boeing Europe. Prior to Boeing, Arthur had a lifelong career as a British Diplomat, having served as British High Commissioner to India 2003 -2007, Ambassador to Germany 2007 – 2010, and head of the European department of the Foreign Office during negotiations on the EU Single market legislation and the Maastricht treaty. Mary McInnis Boies is Counsel to Boies Schiller Flexner LLP where she specializes in antitrust and corporate commercial litigation. She is a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and served on its Board of Directors and chaired its Committee on Nominations and Governance. She served on the Board of MIT’s Center for International Studies and the Executive Committee and Dean’s Council of the Harvard Kennedy School. She is a Vice Chairman of Business Executives for National Security, a nonpartisan nonprofit that connects best practices in the private sector to our national security agencies. Full Bio.

Mark Nichols is the President of Seven Summits, LLC, a strategic advisory firm specializing in energy, infrastructure, and national security. Nichols also serves as a Principal at SeaSpire Advisors, a U.S.-based merchant bank, and is a Senior Advisor to Infinite Photon, a solar developer and equipment manufacturer in Brazil.  Nichols was previously a Principal at Wesley K. Clark and Associates and Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs, where he oversaw the reconstruction of the Balkans following the wars in Bosnia and Kosovo. Alice Maroni is Chief Management Officer at the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). Maroni came to PBGC in May 2011 after 10 years at the Smithsonian Institution, where she served as chief financial officer. Before joining the Smithsonian, Maroni was principal deputy undersecretary of defense (Comptroller), professional staff member of the House Armed Services Committee, and worked in the foreign affairs and national defense division of the Congressional Research Service. Maroni previously served on Stimson’s Board, with her term ending in 2020. Full bio.
