Sir Michael Arthur

Sir Michael Arthur is the former President of Boeing International, where he headed Boeing activities outside the US. He joined the Executive Council (first ever non-American) in this role in 2019. For 5 years previously he held executive positions first as President of Boeing UK, then (additionally) of Boeing Europe. 

Prior to Boeing, Arthur had a lifelong career as a British Diplomat, covering a range of different issues. European policy work was central to most jobs.

He was British High Commissioner to India 2003 -2007 and Ambassador to Germany 2007 – 2010. He served earlier as DHM in Washington and Director General of Economic and European affairs in the Foreign Office. 

Earlier postings included Brussels (EU), Kinshasa, Bonn, and Paris. Along the way he headed the European department of the Foreign Office during negotiations on the EU Single market legislation and the Maastricht treaty.  He was also (1997- 99) Principal Finance Officer for the UK Diplomatic Service.

He now has a number of other not for profit activities, and is a Non-Exec director of the TCS subsidiary in the UK.

Born in Vancouver (originally Canadian), Arthur grew up in UK and studied Politics and Economics at Balliol College Oxford, and later also a sabbatical at St Antony’s. Married with 4 children and 8 grandchildren (and counting!).
