United Nations peacekeeping operations have been underway continuously in the Middle East since 1948. But there also have been non-UN operations. This paper presents detailed case studies of the ill-fated Multi-National Force deployed in Lebanon between 1982 and 1984, and of the quietly successful Multinational Force and Observers deployed in the Sinai Peninsula from 1982 to the present.
