Rachel Stohl quoted in Politico on US drone program

DOCUMENT DRAWER I — DRONE POLICY REPORT CARD: A new “report card” out today from the nonpartisan Stimson Center asserts that the Obama administration has made little progress — and in some cases has failed — to bring drone policy in line with U.S. national interests. In all, the Obama administration earned three C’s, three D’s, three F’s and three U’s, for “Unknown,” the grade assigned in cases “of extremely limited public information available on the drone program.”

The grades were based on implementing the task force’s recommendations made during the past year, said Rachel Stohl, a senior associate with The Stimson Center and author of the report card. “In short, there is a lack of progress by the Obama administration on the key areas of transparency, accountability, and oversight with regard to the U.S. drone program,” Stohl told Morning D. “The administration has a limited amount of time to hold to the values espoused by this administration.”
