The Stimson Center was founded in 1989 with a core focus on reducing nuclear dangers and advancing global nonproliferation efforts.Today, nonproliferation and preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction remains a core global security priority. Stimson’s nonproliferation work focuses on preventing the spread of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons, examining international regimes, verification mechanisms, and emerging proliferation risks to inform decisionmaking that can strengthen global nonproliferation norms and enforcement.
