Vietnam must wean itself off hydropower and U.S. funding to develop its power sector, energy experts said yesterday as President Obama began his three-day visit to the former U.S. enemy.

“I’m worried that if the U.S. comes in and assists — and the U.S. certainly is coming in and assisting on many of these issues — then … there’ll be a bit of overreliance,” said Brian Eyler, deputy director of the Southeast Asia program at the Stimson Center.
