China has taken a new step to promote engagement across the Taiwan Strait, according to local media reports.
A new fund was set up in Beijing Wednesday to help finance more civilian cross-strait exchange programs or activities in the future.
It was the first Chinese fund created under the auspices of the Taiwan Affairs Office for promotion of cross-strait engagement, the reports said.

The Sigur Center for Asian Studies under the George Washington University held a seminar on issues regarding cross-strait military trust Aug. 27.
The seminar brought together several noted scholars to discuss relevant topics, including Bonnie Glaser, a senior adviser for Asia at the Center for Strategic and International Studies; Alan Romberg, director of the East Asia program at the Stimson Center; and Lee Ta-chung, a Tamkang University associate professor.
