Barbara Slavin to Lead New Middle East Voices Publication

Featuring  Barbara Slavin

The Stimson Center is proud to welcome Barbara Slavin to its Middle East & North Africa program as a Distinguished Fellow. Slavin is a well-known scholar, career journalist, and author with long experience in the region. Full bio.

Slavin will lead Middle East Voices, a curated forum for analysis on the most pressing issues facing the region and US policymakers. The publication will feature a variety of perspectives from US, European, and regional experts and strive to identify solutions to the many crises afflicting this strategic global crossroads.

Brian Finlay, President and CEO of the Stimson Center said, “Barbara brings decades of experience, remarkable insight, and deep relationships in the region. At Stimson, we believe dialogue and diplomacy are essential tools of statecraft. Barbara has been a consistent voice for both in places where policymakers have struggled to deliver security and prosperity. I think the policy community will benefit from the diverse perspectives and new ideas she and other Middle East Voices writers bring to the table.”

Barbara Slavin, Distinguished Fellow, said, “I am looking forward to continuing my work on Iran while also broadening the aperture to encompass the wider Middle East. Our new Middle East Voices blog, upcoming events, and writing will address issues ranging from nonproliferation and conflict resolution to climate change and great power competition, complementing the work of other Stimson programs and experts.”

Prior to joining the Stimson Center, Slavin founded and directed the Future of Iran Initiative at the Atlantic Council and led a bi-partisan task force on Iran. The author of Bitter Friends, Bosom Enemies: Iran, the US and the Twisted Path to Confrontation (2007), she is a regular commentator on US foreign policy and Iran on NPR, PBS and C-Span.
