William A. Reinsch Joins Stimson Center as Distinguished Fellow

William A. Reinsch has joined the Stimson Center as a Distinguished Fellow, the Stimson Center announced today. Reinsch joins Stimson’s new Trade in the 21st Century initiative (Trade21), led by Nate Olson. Trade21 promotes a public interest agenda by helping diverse stakeholders navigate and harness the global economy’s market, regulatory, and institutional dynamics.

“Bill Reinsch brings to Stimson a wealth of relevant expertise and wisdom, and an outstanding reputation,” said Stimson Center Chairman Ambassador Lincoln P. Bloomfield Jr. “As trade and economics have increasingly become central factors in foreign relations and international security, Bill’s knowledge of these issues will enhance Stimson’s contributions to an informed policy process.”

Nate Olson added, “It is a privilege to welcome Bill to Stimson. He has a special blend of experience, expertise, and problem-solving instincts on trade and investment issues. Above all, he recognizes the strategic imperative that Trade21 is committed to addressing over the long-term. I’m genuinely excited to work with him.”

Prior to joining Stimson, Reinsch served as President of the National Foreign Trade Council. He previously served as the Under Secretary for Export Administration in the U.S. Department of Commerce, and spent twenty years on Capitol Hill as a senior legislative assistant to Sen. H. John Heinz III — and subsequently — to Senator John D. Rockefeller IV. He is a member of the boards of the Executive Council on Diplomacy, and the Center for International Private Enterprise. From March 2001 to December 2015, Reinsch also served as a member of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.

“Trade is the engine that drives the globalized world,” said Reinsch. “It’s a thrill to join Nate and the talented Stimson Center team in harnessing the powers of the market to better serve as a force for global good.”

Founded in 1989, the Stimson Center is a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank devoted to addressing transnational challenges in order to enhance global peace and economic prosperity.
