Last week former Jordanian Prime Minister Samir Rifai was tasked by King Abdullah II to lead a Royal Committee to Modernize the Political System. Among the 92 committee members, which includes ex-officials and experts from various political and ideological backgrounds, is Stimson Nonresident Fellow Amer Al Sabaileh.

The committee will submit policy recommendations to King Abdullah II before the convening of the next ordinary session of the parliament in October.

“We are proud that Amer has been asked to serve in this role. It is a recognition of his leading voice and expertise on counterterrorism, deradicalization, security studies, and Middle East transitions.  We are certain he will make important contributions to the committee’s discussions and recommendations,” said Kawa Hassan, Executive Director Stimson Europe, Senior Fellow, and Director Middle East and North Africa Program.
