Sally Yozell Applauds COP28 Finalized Fund for Countries Most Impacted by Climate Change

On November 30, the first day of the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28), leaders from nearly all represented nations worked to finalize COP27’s Loss and Damage fund to help finance countries severely impacted by climate change, such as flooding and drought, already raising over $420 million in the first hour.

Sally Yozell, Senior Fellow and Director of the Environmental Security program, commented in response:

“I applaud the UN conference for setting up a fund to help developing countries and island states adapt to climate change on Day One of COP28. We’ve been calling on this financing for the past several years, as these countries are the least responsible and most affected by the climate emergency. CORVI, now operating in 16 countries, is designed to help the global south develop the holistic adaptation plans to build resilience where it’s needed most. This fund will provide financing to countries who continue to be devastated by the climate crisis from extreme storms, floods and heat, and be able to turn their plans into action and safeguard their future.”

CORVI is a data-driven decision support tool for local leaders who need to make smart climate investments to improve the safety and security of coastal cities. The tool uses nearly 100 ecological, financial, and social risk indicators to produce a holistic coastal city risk profile with evidence-based local-level data and concrete recommendations for action.
