Innovative Steps for Combating Environmental Crime

Deputy Director for Stimson’s Managing Across Boundaries initiative Johan Bergenas outlines the work being done in the coming weeks in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and other partners to improve management of security threats in preventing environmental crime. KWS rangers will be trained on new technology developed to assist the rangers, commanders, and staff to protect rhinos and elephants from poaching and reduce the lucrative black market sale of their ivory and horns, a portion of which provides funding for terrorist organizations.
