Aude Darnal was a Research Analyst and Project Manager at the Stimson Center, and the founder and leader of the Global South in the World Order Project — hosted by the Reimagining US Grand Strategy Program. Her work focuses on providing a space for Global South policy experts to inform international policy discussions in Western circles, especially in Washington. The project looks at issues such as reforming the international financial architecture, unlocking climate and development financing for Global South nations, and more generally on the reform of the world order for one that is equitable and fosters prosperity for all.
The Global South in the World Order Project features policy experts from the Global South to address international affairs from their analytical frameworks, deconstruct Western prevailing assumptions about the international system and the role of Global South countries in it, and promote equitable partnerships between Southern and Western nations.
Prior to joining the Stimson Center, Aude served as an associate director at the Atlantic Council’s New American Engagement Initiative. She was also a mobile safety advisor based in the Lake Chad Basin at the International NGO Safety Organisation, where she performed empirical analysis on organized armed groups, and provided support for security-related issues and access to humanitarian NGOs. She also worked in Guinea at Search For Common Ground, where she was responsible for peacebuilding program development, advocacy, and external relations with donors and institutional partners.
Aude has experience working on a wide range of issues related to peacebuilding, development, and humanitarian affairs, conflict prevention and analysis, decolonizing aid, in particular in West Africa. She also has experience in research, strategic communication, and program management and development.
She is from Martinique, in the French Caribbean, and she holds a Master of Science in Conflict Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and International Law from the University of Quebec in Montreal. She is fluent in French, Creole, and English. Aude is a columnist for World Politics Review, and she is regularly featured in conferences worldwide and in policy and media outlets such as Chicago Council on Global Affairs, CNBC Africa, Deep Dish on Global Affairs, Foreign Policy, Arté, France 24, Just Security, NHK World, RTS, and VOA News, among others.
