Nuclear Order under Stress
Nuclear risks have multiplied in recent years, renewing anxieties about the grim possibility of nuclear conflict.

In his 2022 article for the Chilean journal Revista Política y Estrategia argues that a vigorous reaffirmation of multilateralism and a serious re-commitment to nuclear disarmament are required at this dangerous juncture. Such endeavors should engage all Non-Nuclear Weapons States but above all nuclear weapon possessors which have reiterated the Gorbachev – Reagan dictum that “a nuclear war cannot be won and should never be fought.”

The article was conceived as an answer – from the South – to various challenges threatening the nuclear order, particularly, the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT). While the article should have been published by the end of June 2022, its e-version appeared only at the end of August 2022, when the 10th NPT Review Conference had closed, failing to adopt a Final Document.
