Merits of the Iran Deal, Colin Kahl at Stimson
After more than 20 months of careful negotiations, the United States and its international partners have reached a landmark nuclear deal with Iran, designed to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear weapons-capable state. Stimson welcomed National Security Advisor to the Office of the Vice President of the United States Colin Kahl as a keynote speaker to examine the regional implications of the Iran deal.
“Let me be precisely clear at this moment– the United States will never allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon,” said Kahl. “But the president has been equally clear since day one that- all else being equal- a peaceful diplomatic solution is the best way to address this challenge. It’s the most sustainable, the most enduring and avoids some of the incredible uncertainty and downside risks of many of the other options.”
