Taiwan Insight
About the Project
Taiwan is among the most consequential and widely discussed foreign policy issues of our time. Yet policy discourse about Taiwan focuses overwhelmingly on the island’s tensions with mainland China, leaving the political, economic, and social factors shaping cross-Strait relations largely unexamined. Similarly overlooked are the dynamic policy debates within Taiwan and the island’s role as a significant political, economic, and strategic actor in its own right.
In “Taiwan Insight,” Stimson Senior Fellow Michael Cunningham draws on his broad access in Taiwan’s political system and years of experience on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to offer policymakers, students of Taiwan, and the general public a more comprehensive understanding of Taiwan’s internal dynamics, its relationship with the United States, and its evolving role on the global stage.
