The Stimson Center was again recognized as one of the top 25 think tanks in the U.S. — and ranked among the world’s leading institutions in the categories of ‘best new idea’ and ‘best quality and integrity’ standards for independent research. The study released by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania ranked Stimson 24th in the category of “Top Think Tanks in the United States.” The Center ranked 25th in the category of “Best New Idea or Paradigm Developed by a Think Tank,” 41st in the category of “Top Defense and National Security Think Tanks,” and 33rd in the category of “Best Quality Assurance and Integrity Policies and Procedures.” The Stimson Center ranked for the first time in the category of “Top Foreign Policy and International Affairs Think Tanks,” debuting at 117th. There are more than 6,600 think tanks around the world and more than 1,800 think tanks in the U.S.
The rankings mark a period of continued recognition for the Center. A 2015 Foreign Policy study found Stimson had the most women in policy leadership positions of any leading think tank. Earlier that year, Stimson received a top rating from Transparify in recognition of the Center’s transparency and openness in disclosing its funding sources. The MacArthur Foundation recognized Stimson in 2013 with its “institutional genius” Award for Creative and Effective Institutions.
Founded in 1989, the Stimson Center is a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank devoted to addressing transnational challenges in order to enhance global peace and economic prosperity.
