Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates,
“Dr. Ash Carter has dedicated his career to making the world a more safe and secure place. His nonpartisan approach to addressing the security challenges of today was a hallmark of his public service at the Pentagon. A four time recipient of the Department of Defense Distinguished Service Medal, his impact was felt everywhere at DOD. I can think of no more fitting honoree by the Stimson Center, which has for a quarter century continually innovated to find solutions to the tremendous challenges facing the world today. My friend Ash Carter has done much for this country that he loves— and America and the world are better for it.”
