Examining What’s Next for Syria (video)
January 16, 2014

Mona Yacoubian, senior advisor in Stimson’s Middle East program, participated Jan. 8 in a conversation about the conflict in Syria with Ambassador Frederic C. Hof, senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East. The conversation was held at New York University in Washington as part of the Global Leaders series.

Yacoubian discussed her predictions for the upcoming Geneva II peace negotiations, calling the talks a “charade” due to the various obstacles facing the divided Syrian opposition. Hof and Yacoubian also examined what the future of Syria might look like, though disagreeing with notions of a ‘Balkanization’ of the war-torn country.

The series features Alon Ben-Meir, professor of international relations, journalist, and author, who hosts leaders from around the world in conversations that probe critical global issues and explore the policies designed to address them. The Global Leaders series is coordinated by NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies Center for Global Affairs.
