Pamposh Raina

Pamposh Raina leads the Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU) of the Trusted Information Alliance, a cross-sector alliance in India. The DAU is a collaborative project that focuses on countering A.I.-generated misinformation.

She has reported on policy, politics, technology, gender, and children’s rights for international publications, including Foreign Policy Magazine, U.S. News & World Report, and Vox. She was a reporter with The New York Times and the deputy editor for India Ink, which was NYT’s first-ever country-specific blog. She has also been a special correspondent, South Asia, for AFP.

She has held workshops on climate crisis misinformation for journalists in South Asia and Southeast Asia through WAN-IFRA and the Earth Journalism Network. She has hosted panels on mental health and well-being for journalists in India through the Meta Journalism Project. She is part of the global cohort of trainers accredited by the Solutions Journalism Network. During the 2019 Indian election she led a research project, commissioned by WhatsApp, to analyze the misinformation trends on the platform. She initiated a student-led project at UC Berkeley’s Human Rights Center that focused on studying disinformation trends on social media in the run-up to the 2019 election.

She has a master’s degree in Sociology from The Delhi School of Economics. She was awarded a fellowship to pursue graduate studies in Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University. She received a UNFPA sponsored journalism award for gender reporting in India. She has been a fellow at Virginia Tech’s Institute for Leadership in Technology.
