Nicole Gilbert

Nicole Gilbert was an Intern with the Reimagining U.S. Grand Strategy Program at the Stimson Center. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Iowa in 2023 with a BA in History and Psychology, a minor in International Relations, and a certificate in Public Health. She wrote her senior honors thesis on First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy’s public and cultural diplomacy during the early Cold War. 

Throughout her undergraduate career, Nicole conducted research on peace negotiations during the civil wars in the Côte d’Ivoire and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the history of U.S.-China relations. Her research interests include the history of U.S. foreign policy, cultural diplomacy, peacebuilding during political conflicts, and the African critical mineral supply chain.
