Dr. Charles Chong-Han Wu

Dr. Charles Chong-Han Wu was a Visiting Fellow with East Asia Program at the Stimson Center and serves as an associate professor of the Department of Diplomacy at National Chengchi University Taiwan. He previously taught at BNU-HKBU United International College in Zhuhai, China as an assistant professor from 2014 to 2019. Charles holds a PhD from the University of South Carolina in political science (IR), an MA from New York University, and a BA in diplomacy from National Chengchi University.

His research interests include studies of international conflicts, territorial disputes, Chinese foreign aid, and the Sino-U.S. relations with a specific focus on secondary states’ foreign policy in East Asia. His works appeared in Asian Survey, Asian Perspective, China Review, the Journal of Asian and African Studies and other peer-reviewed international and Chinese journals. His current book project with Routledge explains the key defining attributes and description of hedging as a strategy that is distinguishable from pure balancing and band-wagoning.
