Anupam Srivastava is a Nonresident Fellow with the Trade, Technology and Security Program at the Stimson Center. He is also the CEO of SafeZone India – a software firm that provides IT-based commodity classification and compliance solutions for governments and corporations engaged in dual-use trade. His areas of expertise are trade in dual-use technologies, trends in technology transfers, corporate compliance, US relations with India, India’s defense policy, and the emerging economic and security architecture in Asia.

He has varied experience spanning over two decades, working at the intersection of advanced technology commerce and international security. He previously served as Managing Director of Invest India – the official investment facilitation agency established by the Governments of India. Srivastava concurrently served as Assistant Secretary General at FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry). The Invest India team helped expedite regulatory approvals and facilitated implementation of multiple investment projects into India, totaling over $2 billion.

The primary focus of his STC work at Stimson is legal-regulatory assistance to government agencies and to their hi-tech industrial sectors. This work draws upon his prior stint at the University of Georgia where, as Assistant Director at the Center for International Trade and Security, he directed or worked on multiple projects supported by the US Departments of State & Energy, other governments & multiple private foundations. He also worked on projects supported by the United Nations (UNSCR 1540 Expert Committee & Office of Disarmament Affairs) and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Helping governments implement and enforce international obligations regarding trade in dual-use technologies and sanctions by generating actionable recommendations and practitioner-friendly guidance.
