Since the junta’s takeover of Myanmar in February 2021, Myanmar’s economy has been devastated by the effects of the war, sanctions, and the economic policies of the military government. Human rights violations and due diligence remain difficult in Myanmar, complicating the process of sourcing goods and materials from the country. These issues all pose long-term obstacles for the future of Myanmar’s federal economy. Vicky Bowman, Director of the Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business (MCRB), will join East Asia Program Co-Director Yun Sun to discuss the many challenges facing Myanmar’s economy as well as prospects for the future.
