As we approach World Oceans Day, please join us for a discussion on innovative solutions for coastal resilience, including the launch of the Climate and Ocean Risk Vulnerability Index (CORVI).

Our world is warming at an unprecedented rate and coastal cities are the forefront of climate crisis. With the onset of hurricane season, citizens in coastal nations face the dual threat of climate change and COVID-19.

With financial resources stretched as never before, decision makers need targeted risk information to build resilience where it matters most.

Speakers will include:

Sally Yozell, Director of the Environmental Security Program at the Stimson Center

Sally Yozell is a Senior Fellow and Director of the Environmental Security program at the Stimson Center. Yozell’s research examines the suite of environmental threats that have the potential to undermine national, regional, or global security. Her work focuses on ocean security, climate security and wildlife protection.

Karen Florini, Vice President for Programs at Climate Central

Karen Florini is Vice President for Programs at Climate Central, a non-profit NGO that researches and communicates climate science, impacts and solutions through sophisticated information products. At Climate Central, Karen helps manage Climate Central’s program initiatives and engages with strategic partners. Prior to joining Climate Central in mid-2017, Karen served as Deputy Special Envoy for Climate Change at the State Department for the final two years of the Obama Administration.

Nicole LeBoeuf, Acting Assistant Administrator at NOAA’s National Ocean Service

Nicole LeBoeuf has over 20 years of scientific and program management experience, with emphasis on the connections between science and policy. Currently, she is the Acting Assistant Administrator at NOAA’s National Ocean Service. The National Ocean Service (NOS) is the nation’s most comprehensive ocean and coastal agency.

Alice Hill, Senior Fellow for Climate Change Policy at the Council on Foreign Relations (Moderator)

Alice Hill is senior fellow for climate change policy at the Council on Foreign Relations. Her work at CFR focuses on the risks, consequences, and responses associated with climate change.

Andrew MacFarlane, Chief Actuary at AXA XL, a division of AXA

Andrew MacFarlane is Head of Pricing and Analytics, and a Partner on AXA XL’s Leadership Council. In this role he manages supports underwriters across a broad range of business lines and products Macfarlane also plays an instrumental role in looking to expand AXA XL’s involvement in closing the protection gap and leads the Public Sector Partnership practice group at AXA XL.
