Join us for a discussion with Gen. Yamazaki, former Chief of Staff, Joint Staff of Japan Self-Defense Forces, on how the U.S.-Japan alliance has evolved.

GEN Koji Yamazaki will engage in a conversation on the modernization of the U.S.-Japan alliance under his watch, addressing future opportunities and challenges he sees as the two countries work toward their shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific. Simultaneous translation will be provided in Japanese and English.

GEN Koji Yamazaki, Retired General, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force; Former Chief of Staff, Joint Chief, Japan Self-Defense Forces

General Koji Yamazaki (ret., JGSDF) was the 6th Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff of Japan Self-Defense Force. He retired on March 30, 2023, after 40 years of service in the SDF. He previously served as Chief of Staff for the Ground Self-Defense Force. General Yamazaki graduated from the National Defense Academy and received a Master’s in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University in the United States.
