Gen. Kenneth ‘Frank’ McKenzie Jr.’s 42-year career in the Marine Corps began in 1979, a pivotal year in the Middle East, and ended in April 2022, shortly after the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. In a new memoir, “The Melting Point: High Command and War in the 21st Century,” he reflects on that career, in particular, the three years he spent at the head of CENTCOM, and offers advice to those who follow at the pinnacle of U.S. military service.
