Arms Racing in Northeast Asia and Implications for the Korean Peninsula

Past
 Event

An accelerating arms buildup in Northeast Asia in recent years has created challenges for both the US-ROK alliance as well as peace and security on the Korean Peninsula.

The arms buildup in Northeast Asia has accelerated over the past few years–fueled by great power competition and North Korea’s rapidly advancing WMD capabilities. This competition has implications for continued efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, and could ultimately create a volatile situation in a region of such political, strategic, and economic importance, to both the US and broader international peace and security.

Join the Stimson Center for an online discussion about the challenges these regional security trends in Northeast Asia create for the US-ROK alliance, and their potential impact on peace and security on the Korean Peninsula.

This event is made possible through support from the UniKorea Foundation.
