Japan Visiting Fellows Program
Launched in 1999, the Stimson Center provides mid-career level Japanese security experts from government agencies and ministries, news organizations, and research institutions with the opportunity to conduct policy-oriented research in Washington DC on issues that strengthen their understanding of US security policy towards East Asia and US-Japan security relations. The program encourages visiting fellows to strengthen their relationship with their counterparts in Washington, by conducting interviews and engaging in frequent exchange of ideas. By so doing, the Stimson Center strives to develop an upcoming generation of Japanese security policy experts, who will help further deepen the US-Japan security cooperation in the future. In this endeavor, the Center also attempts to thicken the web of contacts among security specialists and policymakers more generally across the entire spectrum: American and Japanese, military and civilian, governmental and non-governmental.
