The Central African Republic (CAR) has experienced political instability and conflicts since its independence from France in 1960. The country has suffered from several coups and attempted coups, with various armed groups vying for control of the government and resources.
In 2013, a coalition of predominantly Muslim rebel groups known as the Seleka overthrew the government, leading to widespread violence between the Seleka and Christian militias known as the anti-Balaka. This conflict has resulted in the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, and the country remains one of the world’s most dangerous for humanitarian workers.Â
The CAR is one of the poorest countries in the world, with low levels of development and high levels of poverty, malnutrition, and disease. The economy is primarily based on subsistence agriculture, and the country is rich in natural resources, including gold, diamonds, and uranium, but their exploitation has been hindered by the conflict and political instability.
