Bessma Momani is a Nonresident Fellow of The Stimson Center. She is Professor of Political Science at the University of Waterloo and the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Her areas of expertise include Middle East security and economic development, radicalization and resiliency of youth, and international finance and development. Prior to joining Stimson, she was a Non-Resident Fellow at the Brookings Doha Center and a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brooking Institution in Washington, DC. She has been a visiting scholar at Georgetown University’s Mortara Center, a 2015 Fellow of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, and a Fulbright Scholar, and a consultant at the International Monetary Fund.

Momani has authored and co-edited over ten books and over 75 scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters that have examined the Middle East, Arab youth, international finance and development, and radicalization. She is a regular contributor to international media on the Middle East and on global governance issues, she has written editorials for many reputable newspapers, including the New York Times, The Economist, The Globe and Mail, Newsweek, and The Toronto Star.

She holds a B.A. in political science from the University of Toronto, an M.A. from the University of Guelph, and a Ph.D. from Western University.
