EDGE explores how emerging and disruptive technologies, such as artificial intelligence, synthetic biology, additive manufacturing, and quantum technologies, are reshaping the landscape of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) threats and opportunities. These WMD-Relevant Technologies (WMD-RT) can accelerate proliferation of both state and non-state actors, while also offering powerful new tools for verification, detection, and threat reduction. EDGE supports the G7-led Global Partnership Against the Spread of WMD in identifying which technologies matter most, assessing their trajectories, and developing coordinated strategies and programming to reduce WMD risks and harness innovation for non-proliferation and counterterrorism.
