Jewellord T. Nem Singh is an internationally recognized scholar of International Relations and Global Political Economy, specializing in critical minerals governance, resource nationalism, and industrial policy in the Global South. He is a Non-Resident Fellow at the Stimson Center and Principal Research Fellow in Global Political Economy at the University of Sussex (2025–2026). He is Principal Investigator of GRIP-ARM (Green Industrial Policy in the Age of Rare Metals), a €1.5 million European Research Council Starting Grant examining critical raw materials governance across Brazil, Kazakhstan, and China, alongside demand-side dynamics in the EU, Japan, South Korea, and China. He also leads GOV-CRM, an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation network on governing critical raw materials supply chains for the clean energy transition, and convenes the Critical Minerals Policy Lab.
Dr. Nem Singh is the author or editor of several books, including Business of the State: Why State Ownership Matters for Resource Governance (Oxford University Press, 2024), Developmental States beyond East Asia (Routledge, 2019), and the Handbook of Resource Nationalism (Edward Elgar, 2026), among others. His research draws on sustained fieldwork across Latin America, Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Central Asia.
He has previously held appointments at Leiden University and was a Global Fellow at the Wilson Center Environmental Change & Security Programme and Wahba Institute for Strategic Competition (2022–2025), alongside earlier research fellowships with the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
