Govarthenan Rajadurai

Govarthenan Rajadurai is a data science enthusiast, following a B.Sc. in Information Systems program at the University of Colombo School of Computing, and working part-time as a data scientist at DreamSpace Academy. In the past few years, Govarthenan’s work in recent years mainly focused on using advanced NLP techniques to identify hate speech in native languages (Tamil, Sinhala) and their transliterated counterparts (Thanglish, Singlish) found on online social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. He has given considerable attention to ensuring the AI systems were impartial to various ethnic, religious, and politically aligned groups. Recently he talked about algorithmic bias in NLP systems and ways to mitigate it in the 2024 Asia-Pacific Peace Research Association (APPRA) Conference at Harmony Centre, University of Vavuniya. He is passionate about ensuring that AI technologies are developed and deployed responsibly for the betterment of humanity, with consideration for diverse global contexts.
