Aremu Anuoluwapo

Aremu Anuoluwapo is a computational linguist leading large-scale linguistic data operations and advancing inclusive language technology across Africa and beyond. He builds cross-sector partnerships for inclusive language technologies, prioritizing ethical data governance, cultural context, and responsible AI. He is actively contributing to the future of shaping inclusive language technology for all.

He currently serves as Lead (Linguistic) Data Officer at Lelapa AI, where he leads data strategy and executes cross-regional dataset partnerships. Aremu’s expertise covers linguistic ontology design, speech and text annotation, multilingual evaluation, and language data governance. As a long-time member of the Masakhane community, he has contributed to landmark research in reading comprehension, named-entity recognition, and speech corpora for African languages. He has co-authored publications at leading computational linguistics and natural language processing venues including ACL, EMNLP, and LREC-COLING.

Aremu’s academic background combines linguistics and computation, with a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and African Studies from the University of Lagos and ongoing graduate study in computational linguistics at the University of Trento.
