Dr. Christian Schwarz-Schilling, High Representative and European Union
Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, joined us for a
discussion about the future of Bosnia and the region. Dr.
Schwarz-Schilling is a high profile politician in Germany who served in
the Bundestag for 26 years. He has spent the last ten years focused on
mediation in the Balkans and has widespread experience in conflict
resolution in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Macedonia. Eleven
years after the Dayton accords, significant challenges remain including
organized crime, corruption and human trafficking. A recent EU report
also noted the need for greater co-operation with the International
Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia to arrest top war crimes
suspects Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic. What can our experiences in
Bosnia offer to other stability operations? What are the prospects for
Bosnian integration into the EU and NATO? What are the prospects for
Serbia, Kosovo and the wider region?
