February 25-27, 2011 – Managing Across Boundaries program staff participates in Stanley Foundation organized meeting on UN Security Council Resolution 1540 – On February 25-27, the Managing Across Boundaries program staff joined UN diplomats, officials from region and subregional organizations, as well as other experts in conversation about the renewal process of UN Security Council Resolution 1540 due in April 2011. The meeting was organized by the Stanley Foundation and was that organization’s 42nd annual UN Issues Conference. It was held in Tarrytown, New York.

Throughout the meeting, participants reflected on the evolution of UN Security Council Resolution 1540 since its adoption in April 2004, as well as broader issues related to implementation and prospects for renewal of the Resolution. Discussions also focused on the continued challenge of bridging the North-South divide through innovative approaches to implementation, capacity building, the role of regional and sub-regional organizations, resourcing issues, and structural roles and identities across the wider nonproliferation regime.
