This panel discussion serves to commemorate Secretary Albright’s legacy and to reflect on how to take it forward into the new age of competitive geopolitics.

More information from Leiden University.

In March this year, Madeleine Albright passed away, leaving a remarkable legacy as America’s first female Secretary of State, who pioneered the creation of international criminal tribunals, the Community of Democracies, the accession of Central and Eastern European countries into NATO, and billed herself as a “assertive multilateralist” and defender of the UN.

With introductory remarks from Mr. Jozias Van Aartsen (former Dutch Foreign Minister and Mayor of The Hague), panelists include Prof. Giles Scott-Smith (Dean, Leiden University College), Dr. Richard Ponzio (Stimson Center), Dr. Alanna O’Malley (Institute for History, Leiden University), and Dr. Joris Larik (Leiden University College and Leiden Law School).

The panel discussion will be followed by Q&A. This event is open to the public.
