Akintunde Ifeanyichukwu Agunbiade

Akin Ifeanyi Agunbiade is an Associate at Aluko & Oyebode, a leading Nigerian law firm, where he advises companies on compliance strategies for AI-adjacent regulations, content moderation rules, and telecoms licensing. With six years of experience in AI law and policy, he is the author of Artificial Intelligence & Law: A Nigerian Perspective (2019), the first book to outline adoption opportunities and regulatory frameworks for AI in Nigeria’s legal sector.

He has contributed to several international policy dialogues: in 2020, he joined WIPO discussions on AI and intellectual property, focusing on inventorship, ownership, and disclosure in patent applications; in 2021 and 2022, he authored Nigeria’s chapters in the UN Human Rights Office’s reports on ‘The Impact of AI on the Right to Privacy in the Digital Age’; and in 2023, he spoke at WIPO and EPO panels on the implications of generative AI for copyright law and patent administration in African countries.

Agunbiade was part of the early committee tasked with drafting Nigeria’s National AI Policy, contributing sections on risk classification, AI and gender, disability, responsible AI obligations, and special considerations. Within the Stimson Centre’s Responsible AI Fellowship, his research has examined AI’s impact on the Sustainable Development Goals in Nigeria, its role in domestic surveillance, and its implications for democratic governance during the 2024 election cycle.

Beyond policy work, he is the Chief Research and Policy Officer of Afrique AI Lab, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing technical capacity and policy awareness among Africa’s next generation of AI talent. He also hosts Blockbusters & Algorithms, a podcast that explains AI concepts, ethical challenges, and legal frameworks through the lens of sci-fi films. His publications span quantum computing, generative AI, copyright, data protection, and justice sector reforms.
