Afghanistan’s western-backed government fell to the Taliban over two years ago, triggering an ongoing humanitarian crisis as most development assistance dried up. While Taliban rule has reduced violence within the country, restrictions on human rights, especially increasingly severe strictures on the movement and education of women and girls, along with a severely constrained economy, have contributed to the hardship the country faces.
