Five months after the Three Brotherhood Alliance commenced Operation 1027 in Shan State in eastern Myanmar, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) launched its own offensive against the military on March 7. As Ethnic Resistance Organizations (EROs) continue to retake territory from the junta, understanding the goals of these groups and how they think about their role and connection to the broader resistance and their own goals in the conflict is critical to the future of Myanmar.
