As Myanmar approaches the second anniversary of the 2021 military coup, resistance forces remain divided by ethnic and political differences. Despite some on-the-ground success in military cooperation, alliance politics in the resistance movement are still fluid and unstable. Moving forward, greater military cooperation amongst the old and new resistance groups will be critical in fighting the military junta.
Join us to discuss the future of Myanmar’s resistance movement in 2023. Ye Myo Hein, an expert on Myanmar’s civil war and armed resistance, will discuss his policy paper, Greater Military Cooperation is Needed in the Burmese Resistance Movement, outlining the future of military cooperation and coordination between regional resistance forces. Christina Fink, Professor of Practice of International Affairs at George Washington University and former Thailand coordinator for the Open Society Institute’s Burma Project, will provide comments as a discussant.
