The 2003 occupation of Iraq by US and coalition forces continues to be studied and assessed.  We are pleased to offer a unique opportunity to hear an insider British account of the early days of the occupation.  Hillary Synnott will talk about his explosive new book, BAD DAYS IN BASRA: My Turbulent Time as Britain’s Man in Southern Iraq, at the Stimson Center on Tuesday May 20 from 4-5:30.
Synnott is the British diplomat who ran Southern Iraq for the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA), and his candid account of Coalition reality on the ground will shock, enlighten, and inspire new debate.  Readers are given an up close view of the interaction between Synnott and his American counterpart Paul Bremer, as Synnott and his team in the South struggled for adequate resources.  Synnott’s account lets us in on the erratic top-down direction provided by London, and the overall confusion and chaos under which the coalition was expected to function.

This event is public.  Please RSVP to [email protected] no later than Friday May 16.  Please include the date and name of the event in the subject of your email.
