Access to North Korea is extremely limited, with strict information and border controls, restrictions on movements in and out of the country, and a pervasive security apparatus. Commercial satellite imagery has become a critical tool for monitoring developments across the country including changes and upgrades to its military and WMD infrastructure, progress of its major development projects, assessments of its economic infrastructure, expansion of its telecommunications and digital surveillance networks, and more.

38 North has been engaged in this monitoring effort since 2011 and provides key insights into how the country is developing.
