In the lead up to the tenth Our Ocean Conference (OOC10) in Busan, Korea, the Stimson Center and the World Resources Institute will host a presentation and discussion to explore some of the critical OOC “areas of action.” The presentation will offer an opportunity to feature some of our partners’ recent work and will seek to engage all the OOC stakeholders in a productive conversation about the OOC themes and priorities before, during, and after OOC10 in Busan.

Denham Chuc, Protected Areas Manager, Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary
Denham Chuc has 15 years of experience leading environmental conservation and management projects and programming in Belize. Prior to his current role, Denham was the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer with the Climate Finance Office of the Belize Ministry of Economic Development. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and is now the Protected Areas Manager at the Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.

Dr. Jennifer Howard, Vice President, Blue Carbon, Conservation International
Dr. Howard leads Conservation International’s blue carbon program, driving global partnerships and innovative solutions to protect coastal ecosystems and combat climate change. Her work focuses on implementing scalable mechanisms to conserve coastal and marine ecosystems with the aim of supporting coastal communities, combating climate change and protecting biodiversity.

Rocky Sanchez Tirona, Global Program Lead, Fish Forever, Rare Inc.
Rocky oversees the Fish Forever program at Rare, which aims to link the protection and productivity of coastal waters with the prosperity of coastal communities. Fish Forever has a global team of over 100 staff, working with over 250 local partners, across eight countries. It works to empower local governments and communities to establish and sustain networks of protected and sustainable use areas which impact food, livelihoods and climate resilience.

Carolyn Gruber is a Fellow and Deputy Director of the Environmental Security Program at the Stimson Center. Before joining the Stimson Center, Carolyn was a foreign affairs specialist for the U.S. Departments of State and Commerce, including at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, focusing on international fisheries conservation and management.
