Lukas Haynes was a Distinguished Fellow with the Stimson Center. He served as Executive Director and then Chief Executive Officer of the David Rockefeller Fund, a private, non-profit grantmaking foundation in the United States from 2015-22. He oversaw all operations and grants programs, including efforts focused on climate change solutions, civic engagement, justice system transformation and art for social impact. His work also included overseeing Board Investment Committee divestment from fossil fuels and ongoing targets for mission-aligned investing as an institutional member of the UN-convened Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance.
Previously, Haynes was vice president of the Mertz Gilmore Foundation, New York director and peace/security program officer for the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and a Fellow at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. From 2000-01, he served as a speechwriter for Secretary of State Madeleine Albright on the Policy Planning Staff of the U.S. State Department. In the late 1990’s, Haynes held positions at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the International Crisis Group and Oxfam UK/Ireland. He earned a master’s degree in International Relations at Oxford University and an undergraduate degreeat the College of William and Mary.
Mr. Haynes remains a governing board director of the Clara Lionel Foundation, Just Detention International, Sepsis Alliance and Independent Diplomat, all U.S. charities. He serves on the advisory board of the Council on Strategic Risks’ Center for Climate and Security and he is a trustee of Lulu’s Fund, devoted to preschool financial aid in memory of his late daughter. He is a passionate skier and avid traveler.
