(New York) A major report on UN and broader global governance reforms will be released on June 16, 2015 by the Commission on Global Security, Justice & Governance, the Commission announced on April 2nd at the conclusion of two days of high-level talks in New York. Led by former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former Nigerian Foreign Minister and UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Ibrahim Gambari, the Commission will offer recommendations on important structural reforms to the United Nations and other global institutions to better address new global challenges posed by conflict–affected states, climate change, and the hyper-connected global economy. The Commission’s report will be released in The Hague in advance of the United Nations’ 70th Anniversary Summit in September.
Integral to the discussions in New York was a second Consultation by Commissioners with UN Member States, Co-Hosted by Ambassador Harald Braun of Germany and Ambassador Antonio Patriota of Brazil and held on April 2 at the German Mission to the United Nations. The New York-based International Peace Institute provided the venue for the Commission’s meeting (IPI is the Secretariat for the Independent Commission on Multilateralism). The Permanent Representative of The Netherlands to the United Nations, Ambassador Karel J.G. van Oosterom, hosted a dinner at his residence in honor of the Commission.
