Global Perspectives

Responsible AI Fellowship

Convening stakeholders from developing countries to discuss artificial intelligence, evaluate the technology's impact around the world, and propose responsible ways forward

In partnership with Microsoft’s Office of Responsible AI, the Strategic Foresight Hub at Stimson established a fellowship program to convene a diverse group of stakeholders, examine AI applications, and evaluate AI’s impacts in Global Majority countries. Together, Fellows seek to understand how AI-related harms and benefits may manifest themselves in various social, cultural, economic, and environmental contexts, and identify technological as well as regulatory solutions to mitigate risks and maximize opportunities.

Fellows participate in a series of structured virtual discussions that create space for the meaningful exchange of best practices, build an expert community of diverse stakeholders, and develop strategic insights to support the responsible development and use of AI in Global Majority countries. Fellows are further awarded a stipend and empowered to present their ideas while actively contributing to solving challenges on the cutting edge of AI.

This project is made possible with generous support from Microsoft’s Office of Responsible Artificial Intelligence. Hiwot Tesfaye is the project’s implementation partner from Microsoft; she is also a member of the Stimson Center’s Alfred E. Loomis Council.
